In traditional care settings and even at home, it often takes two people to lift a patient, which is not only time-consuming but also increases the risk of injury. Back injuries are a common problem, not only among professional caregivers but also among family members who care for their loved ones. These injuries often occur when families face the heavy burden of moving an ill family member who cannot move independently.
According to a report from the Swedish Work Environment Authority, almost one-third of all healthcare units lack adequate procedures for managing the risks associated with heavy lifting, making it more difficult to prevent work-related injuries (Prevent - working environment in cooperation).
Statistics show a worrying trend where the number of workplace accidents related to strain injuries, particularly among nurses, has increased in recent years. In 2021, 1,193 workplace accidents were reported among specialist nurses, a significant increase compared to 398 reported cases in 2019 (Vårdfokus).

Additionally, it has been found that although both men and women perform similar tasks in healthcare, women are more likely to suffer from strain injuries, indicating a gender difference in how work and the working environment are managed.
